J
When J was thirteen years old, her older sister was diagnosed with cancer.
J and her younger sister were taken into care and placed with foster
carers for a year. After she left foster care, her sister died. This,
coupled with other issues, resulted in the deterioration of J's relationship
with her family. At the age of sixteen, J left home. She went to temporarily
live with friends and was then referred to Kick Start London's short
stay supported housing scheme by Camden's Housing Department.
Despite J being estranged from her family, she was determined to continue
her education. Since coming to Kick Start, J has completed her three
years Beauty Therapy and Make Up for Films course.
J has now moved to Kick Start London's second stage supported accommodation.
She has worked with staff on her support needs. These have been particularly
around welfare benefits, financial issues and accessing local services.
Staff have also helped J by applying for educational and clothing grants
to help her with her course.
J is now a fully qualified Beauty Therapist and Make Up Artist. She
passed all her exams, achieving excellent grades. She has received various
educational achievements awards from her college in recognition of her
outstanding hard work and commitment to the course. She is ready to
move-on to live in her own permanent accommodation.
